About

Our story here at 626 Main St. began in the spring of 2024, when Veronica Yang (BFA) began looking for her own studio space before graduating from Emily Carr University of Art + Design.

It was in her final year of studies at Emily Carr University of Art + Design. Yang came to understand that the shared studio space was a meaningful and valuable space for artists to work, gather, and share their practices to create community and support.

Then, just before her graduation, she stumbled upon 626 Main St. and began to imagine how this space could be transformed into a shared artist studio and gallery in the heart of Chinatown.

This dream began to actualize when she and multiple classmates, Alejandra Mercedez, Nedda May, and Kaela Ho, decided to run the space together. Later in 2025, Lucas Gomez Cid joined, and today there are a total of five artists in residence at Gallery 626, including Veronica Yang.
